Kurooramma's faith in divine names

6/2308

This story of naamamaahatmyam is again about Kurooramma and Vilwamangalam. Once a man with severe stomach ache came to see Vilawamangalam. He told Vilwamangalam about his severe pain and asked him how he could find some relief. Vilwamanagalam is a great devotee of Guruvayurappan and also he had good knowledge in Jyothisham or astrology. So, taking into consideration of the sick person's star and time, he told him:

"your time is not very good. What ever you do, your praarabdha karma (karmas of the past whose results are ripe enough to be experienced) shows that you have to go through this difficult phase for the next six months. Of course I suggest that you pray Guruvayurappan sincerely and wait until the kaalam or time is in your favor. Guruvayurappan's blessings will give you strength to face the difficult time. There is nothing that you can do to erase the praarabdha karma. Poor man! He was very sad and started praying Guruvayurappan.

His pain was increasing day by day and then one day he happened to see Kurooramma . So he asked her how he could get some relief from the excruciating stomach pain. Kurooramma told emphatically:

"Do naama japam continuously. If you chant naamam with bhakthi all the time your pain will definitely disappear. Please do it all the time except when you are sleeping. There is no restrictions to follow for chanting Bhagavat naamam. So do it everyday as many times as you can."

This man felt a little better and started chanting naamam all the time. He was continuously meditating on Krishna and chanted naamam with all sincerity. In a few week's time his pain was completely gone. He came to Vilwamangalam who was sitting near the sreekovil of Guruvayurappan and told him that he was completely cured. Vilwamangalam asked:

"How? What medicine did you take?"

He told him that as per Kurooramma's advice he chanted Naaraayana naamam for a week and he was cured. After that he prayed Guruvayurappan and left.

Then Vilwamangalam asked Guruvayurappan:

" Guruvayurappa, you made me a fool. I saw his Jaathakam or horoscope and it clearly showed that he had to go through the results of his praarabdha karma for the next six months. I did not say a lie and now my words have become meaningless.  I do not understand my mistake".

Then from the sreekovil, Guruvayurappan said:

" Vilwamangalam, I did not say any where that naamajapam cannot nullify the negative effects prarabdhakarmas. Kurooramma knew the greatness of naamam in Kaliyuga."

Naamasmaranam removes even the praabdha karma phalam.

Shathaabishekam

6/21/08 When is Shathaabhishekam celebrated? When it should be celebrated? We have heard about different versions of when it should be celebrated, when you complete 84 years, or when you complete 81 years and 10 months or when you complete 83 years 4 months. Shathaabhishekam is celebrated when a person sees 1000 full moons lives through 1000 full moons in his life. Since it is a mathematical calculation, there should only be one answer. Then how are we having all these three answers? (It really does not matter when you celebrate, but out of curiosity to know the reason behind the celebration, I did some research and I thought some people may share my curiosity. Of all the explanations I read I liked the one given below.)   Here is a convincing explanation based mainly on a question -answer series in Bhakthapriya magazine published by Guruvayur devaswom. For clarity, I am trying to express it as mathematically as possible.   Number of full moon...

Bhaktha Prahlada's previous life

5/7/09 In Bhagavad Gita Bhagavan said:    "Antha kale cha smaran mukthva kalebaram ya: prayaathi sa madbhaavam yaathi naasthi athra samshaya:"   "One who thinks of me at the time of death will attain me. This is beyond doubt."   Also Bhagavan clarifies further by saying:  "What you are thinking at the time of your death shapes your next janma because you would have meditated or continuously thought about that for a long time in your life and because of that vaasana you would be able to think only of that."   In Bhagavatham Jadabharatha's story illustrates this point. Bharatha, son of Rishabha Deva  was a great devotee of Bhagavan. But he was deeply attached to a deer and ended up thinking of it at the time of death. He was born as a deer and later got a human janma and got salvation.   It is interesting to note that Bhaktha Prahlada was born as an Asura, as the son of the greatest enemy of Vishnu Bhaga...

Six elder brothers of Krishna

5/6/09 We all know that Prahlada was the son of Hiranyakashipu. According to the story in Harivamsha, Hiranyakashipu had another son called Kaalanemi. (Kalanemi appears in different demon forms in each yuga and gets killed by Lord. In Threthayuga he was Ravana's uncle.) This Kalanemi of Dwapara yuga had 6 sons who were the son's of Marichi Maharshi in their previous birth. They were born as Kalanemi's children becasue of a curse from Sage Devala. They were called shad-garbhaas and their names were Hamsa, Suvikrama, Krahta, Damana, Ripumardana and Krodhahantha.   These grandsons of Hiranyakashipu did not accept Hiranykashipu as their God and refused to chant "Hiranyaaya Nama" as instructed. Instead they did severe penance to please Brahma Devan. Brahmadevan was pleased and appeared before them and gave the boon they asked for. They did not want to get killed by any Devaas, Gandharvaas, Yakshaas or naagaas. After receiving the boons, they stayed under wat...
