Great devotee and singer Purandara dasa was spiritually very rich, but his material possessions were very few or in the material sense he was very poor. One day, a rich man came to him and this conversation followed their meeting.
Rich man:
"Respected sir, I really love your songs and you are such a great devotee. But why is it that you do not have enough money even to make a living? Is God so unkind? I came here to help you with some money very much needed by you. Even though God's kindness is not flowing towards you, please accept my kindness!"
Purandara Das:
"Who told you that I am a poor man? I am not a poor man because Bhagavan who possesses unlimited knowledge, energy, strength, opulence, heroism, and splendor and who is beginnigless and endless, lives in my heart. So I possess the richest possession one can ever possess and nobody can take it away from me. Sir, I have to add one more thing here. Also I belong to Him. This means I live with Him who has everything one could wish for. So please do not call me a poor man and extend your help to somebody who thinks he is poor, not to somebody you think is poor."

What we think calamity is not calamity and what we think prosperity is not prosperity. Calamity is forgetting Him and prosperity is remembrance of the Lord
