Blue stones or Neelakkallukal 4

In Bhagavad Gita, Bhagavaan tells Arjuna to remember Him always and then fight " thasmaath sarveshu kaaleshu maam anusmara". So remembering Him all through life and as a result being able to remember Him at the time death enables one to attain moksham. It is interesting to note that in Bhagavatham Bhagavaan says :
kaamam krodham bhayam sneham
aikyam sauhrdam eva ca
nityam harau vidadhato
yaanti tan-mayataam hi te

People who constantly direct their desire, anger, fear, love, feeling of oneness or friendship toward Bhagavaan are sure to get salvation or ultimately reach Him. Bhagavaan does not mind what the attitude is or what the feelings are towards Him as long as one thinks of Him constantly.

Example for filling their hearts with kaamam is Gopikaas. Shishupaala and Danthavakthra were constantly connected to Bhagavaan with krodham or anger and both of them attained moksham by embracing death by His hands.

Kamsan attained moksham by continuously remembering Lord with intense fear of death by His hands and he also attained moksham. Maatha Yashoda is an example of showering unconditional love on Lord Krishna. Madhyama Pandava, Arjuna loved Him as a friend.

Old Sufi proverb says: "You can meditate for fifteen years and get one inch closer to God; or you can be really angry and be with Him instantly." Also Ramana Maharshi says: "He wants only to be remembered. The mood in which you remember Him is of less importance"

This kind of negative intense feelings towards God is called Samrambha yogam. Anger, fear, hatred etc include in this category. The reason to attain salvation faster may be that the emotion of anger etc are more intense and constant than that of love. But there is absolutely no enjoyment in this type of negative feelings and hence love of Bhagavaan or Bhakthi is the best way to attain Him. (Also it is relevant to remember devotees like Pingala who experienced intense devotion due to atonement-  with out any negative emotion towards Bhagavaan - attained moksham soon.)

Swami Shivananda's words about this expresses the greatness of Bhakthi yoga:
"Bhakti softens the heart and removes jealousy, hatred, lust, anger, egoism, pride and arrogance. It infuses joy, divine ecstasy, bliss, peace and knowledge. All cares, worries and anxieties, fears, mental torments and tribulations entirely vanish. The devotee is freed from the Samsaric wheel of births and deaths. He attains the immortal abode of everlasting peace, bliss and knowledge.

The fruits of Bhakti is Jnana. Jnana intensifies Bhakti. Even Jnanis like Sankara, Madhusudana and Suka Dev took to Bhakti after Realization, only  to enjoy the sweetness of loving relationship with God.

Knowledge or wisdom will dawn by itself when you practice Bhakti Yoga. Bhakti is the pleasant, smooth, direct road to God. Bhakti is sweet in the beginning, sweet in the middle and sweet in the end. It gives the highest, undecaying bliss."

Shathaabishekam

6/21/08 When is Shathaabhishekam celebrated? When it should be celebrated? We have heard about different versions of when it should be celebrated, when you complete 84 years, or when you complete 81 years and 10 months or when you complete 83 years 4 months. Shathaabhishekam is celebrated when a person sees 1000 full moons lives through 1000 full moons in his life. Since it is a mathematical calculation, there should only be one answer. Then how are we having all these three answers? (It really does not matter when you celebrate, but out of curiosity to know the reason behind the celebration, I did some research and I thought some people may share my curiosity. Of all the explanations I read I liked the one given below.)   Here is a convincing explanation based mainly on a question -answer series in Bhakthapriya magazine published by Guruvayur devaswom. For clarity, I am trying to express it as mathematically as possible.   Number of full moon...

Six elder brothers of Krishna

5/6/09 We all know that Prahlada was the son of Hiranyakashipu. According to the story in Harivamsha, Hiranyakashipu had another son called Kaalanemi. (Kalanemi appears in different demon forms in each yuga and gets killed by Lord. In Threthayuga he was Ravana's uncle.) This Kalanemi of Dwapara yuga had 6 sons who were the son's of Marichi Maharshi in their previous birth. They were born as Kalanemi's children becasue of a curse from Sage Devala. They were called shad-garbhaas and their names were Hamsa, Suvikrama, Krahta, Damana, Ripumardana and Krodhahantha.   These grandsons of Hiranyakashipu did not accept Hiranykashipu as their God and refused to chant "Hiranyaaya Nama" as instructed. Instead they did severe penance to please Brahma Devan. Brahmadevan was pleased and appeared before them and gave the boon they asked for. They did not want to get killed by any Devaas, Gandharvaas, Yakshaas or naagaas. After receiving the boons, they stayed under wat...
