As an addendum to the post Kaalaswaroopan, let us look at a story of Lord Brahma's ego and the reason behind why Lord Brahma is not commonly worshiped in temples?
Brahma and Vishnu together were travelling for fun through the Universe and one day they found an extremely long lighted pole. The lighted stick was so long that they could not find the beginning or end of the stick. Both of them wanted to know the source and end and they decided to go and look in two different directions. Vishnu took a long time and tried to find the source and came back very tired with out finding the beginning of the pole of light. Brahma also came back, but he had the ego of creation and he did not want to admit that he could not find the end of the stick. So he said that he found where the stick ended (or it can be said as the beginning too). He was lying.
Immediately at the end of the lighted pole Shiva appeared and cursed Brahma for lying that he would never be worshipped along with other devaas during pooja ceremonies. That is why we hardly see any poojaas offered to Brahma and very few temples with Brahma as the main diety.
Now let us cook some food for meditation or mananam from this story:
It is said that any Pravrutthi karma like the act of creation generates ego in to the creator's mind and only with Nivrutthi karma, like prayers, removes it. So whenever we venture to do anything new, along with the prayers for success of the project, we are advised to pray for a humble attitude of not taking credit for all our achievements. Surrendering the success and failure of all our actions are recommended by scriptures and seers alike. The best manthram for this is
kayena vaacha manasendriyaiva
budhyaatmana va prakruthae swabhaavaath
karomi yadyath sakalam parasmai
Naraayanaethi samarpayaami.
