വന്ന സന്തോഷത്തോടും മറ്റുള്ള ജനങ്ങളും
നന്ദിച്ചു ചെന്നു നിജമന്ദിരേ മേവീടിനാർ.
മുഖ്യയാം കാളിന്ദിതൻ തീരത്തു മഥുരയെ--
ന്നാഖ്യയാം രാജധാനിതന്നിലങ്ങതുകാലം
യാദവവൃഷ് ണ്യന്ധകഭോജാദികളെയെല്ലാം
മോദേന ശൂരസേനൻ പാലിച്ചു വാഴുംകാലം
ദേവകതനൂജയാം ദേവകിതന്നെ വസു--
ദേവനാം ശൂരപുത്രൻ ഭാഗ്യവാൻ വെട്ടീടിനാൻ.
പൊന്നണിഞ്ഞാനകളും അശ്വങ്ങൾ രഥങ്ങളും
സുന്ദരിമാരാം ദാസിവൃന്ദവും ധനങ്ങളും 110
എന്നിവയനവധി നൽകിനാൻ ദേവകനും
കന്യകതന്നിലുള്ള വാത്സല്യം പെരുക്കയാൽ.
ദേവകഭ്രാതാവാകും ഉഗ്രസേനന്റെ സുതൻ
കേവലമുഗ്രനാകും കംസനും അതുനേരം
നല്ലൊരു രഥംതന്നിൽ സോദരീസ്യാലന്മാരെ
മെല്ലവേ കരയേറ്റിക്കൊണ്ടുടൻ പുറപ്പെട്ടു.
സോദരീസ്നേഹംകൊണ്ടു താൻ തന്നെ തേരും തെളി--
ച്ചാദരവോടു ഘോഷയാത്രയും തുടങ്ങിനാൻ.
കേൾക്കായിതശരീരിവാക്യവും അതുനേരം:
"മൂർഖനായോരു കംസ ! കേൾക്ക നീ വഴിപോലെ; 120
ദേവകിയ് ക്കെട്ടുപുത്രന്മാരുണ്ടാ, മതിൽ
കേവലം എട്ടാമൻ നിന്നെയും വധിച്ചീടും!"
എന്നതു കേട്ടനെരമെത്രയും ഭയത്തോടും
വന്നൊരു കോപത്തോടും കംസനുമെഴുന്നേറ്റു
നല്ലൊരു വാളെടുത്തു ചെന്നു തൻഭഗിനിയെ--
ക്കൊല്ലുവാനായിപ്പിടിപ്പെട്ടിതു കേശത്തിൻമേൽ .
ഹാഹാകാരേണ പരിപൂർണ്ണമായ്ജ്ജഗത്തെല്ലാം;
മോഹിച്ചു ദേവകിയും ഭൂമിയിൽ വീണീടിനാൾ.
എന്നതു കണ്ടു ചെറ്റു ചിന്തിച്ചു വസുദേവൻ
മന്ദഹാസവും ചെയ്തു കംസനോടുരചെയ്താൻ: -- 130
"ഭോജവംശാമൃതാബ്ധിശീതാംശോ, മഹാമതേ,
പൂജിതഗുണനിധേ! കേൾക്ക മേ വാക്യം ഭവാൻ.
"സാഹസമരുത, രു, താർക്കും എന്നറിഞ്ഞാലു--
മാഹന്ത ധർമ്മാധർമ്മമൊക്കെയും മറന്നല്ലോ.
കന്യകാഹത്യയോടു തുല്യമായൊരു പാപം
മന്നിലില്ലൊരുവർക്കും എന്നല്ലോ ശാസ്ത്രങ്ങളും.
"എന്നതിൽ വിശേഷിച്ചു സോദരിയല്ലോ ഇവൾ
ഒന്നുമില്ലപരാധമിവൾക്കു നിരൂപിച്ചാൽ.
"കന്യകാവധം കൊണ്ടു നിന്നുടെ കീർത്തിയ് ക്കിന്നു
വന്നിടും കളങ്കവും എന്നതു ധരിച്ചാലും! 140
"വീരരായുള്ളവർക്കു ദുഷ് കീർത്തി വരുന്നതിൽ
പാരാതെ മരിപ്പതു നല്ലതെന്നറിഞ്ഞാലും,
"ത്വൽക്കീർത്തി സഹിയാഞ്ഞു ദേവകൾ ഭവാനൊരു
ദുഷ് ക്കീർത്തിയുണ്ടാക്കുവാൻ ഇന്നിതു ചൊൽകയല്ലീ ?
എന്നിയേ ദേവവാക്യം സത്യമെന്നിരിയ് ക്കിലോ
മന്നവ, നീക്കീടുവാൻ ആവതല്ലല്ലോ പാർത്താൽ.
മർത്ത്യൻമാർ ജനിയ് ക്കുന്പോൾ കൂടവേ ജനിച്ചീടും
മൃത്യുവും, ഒരുമിച്ചു നിത്യവും വസിച്ചീടും.
കാലവും വരുന്നേരം മൃത്യുവും ഗ്രഹിച്ചീടും
കാലകാലനുമതു നീക്കുവാൻ പണിയത്രേ ! 150
ഇന്നിവൾതന്നെക്കൊന്നാൽ നിനക്കു മൃതിയെന്ന-
തെന്നുമില്ലെന്നതുണ്ടോ നിന്നുടെ മനക്കാന്പിൽ ?

Due to his overwhelming love for his daughter, DEvaka gave her lot of wealth including numerous elephants adorned with gold, horses, chariots and many beautiful ladies to serve her.

Then DEvakA's brother UgrasEnA's son Kamsa , famous for his valor, brought a nice chariot and offered to take his cousin sister and brother-in-law (to VasudEvA's home). Because of his love for his sister, he himself became the charioteer and proceeded in a procession.

Then he heard an aerial voice (aShareeri) : " Stupid Kamsa, listen to this. DEvaki will give birth to eight sons and the eighth son will kill you.”

When Kamsa heard this, he was both afraid and angry. He got up from his seat, drew his sword and caught hold of his sister's hair, in order to kill her. The whole place was echoing with the sound “alas! alas!” and Devaki fell unconscious on the floor.

Seeing this Vasudeva thought for a short while and told Kamsa with a smile: " Oh! Kamsa, who is like a cooling moon to the ocean of BhOja dynasty! who is very intelligent and who is a respected treasure of virtues, please listen to my words. No, no! Do not take such a reckless decision. You have forgotten what is ethically right and what is not right. (dharmam and adharmam).
All scriptures say that there is no sin in the world equal to killing a woman and especially in this case, think about the fact that she is your sister and also she is innocent. If you kill her, it will definitely spoil your good reputation.
For great people like yourself, it is better to die than lose your reputation. Devaas are jealous of your fame and don't you think they might be using this ashareeri to defame you?
In addition, if the divine words (aerial voice you heard) are going to be true, O! king! it is impossible to change the course of destiny. When we are born, death also is born with us and all along it stays with us.
When the time comes, death will grab us and it is said that even for the Lord of Death, it is hard to change or stop destiny. If you kill DEvaki today, do you think death will never happen to you?
