ദശമം -- അദ്ധ്യായം 8
അക്കാലം യദുവീരന്മാരുടെ പുരോഹിതൻ
മുഖ്യനാം ഗർഗ്ഗൻ വസുദേവന്റെ വചനത്താൽ
നന്ദ-ഗോകുലത്തിങ്കൽ ചെന്നിതു, മോദത്തോടും
നന്ദിച്ചു സൽക്കരിച്ചു നന്ദനും ഉരചെയ് തു:--
"ധന്യനായ്ച്ചമഞ്ഞു ഞാനിന്നു നിന്തിരുവടി--
തന്നെക്കണ്ടതുമൂലം, സൌഖ്യവും വന്നൂ തുലോം.
നമ്മുടെ ഗൃഹമതും കുലവും വിശുദ്ധമായ്;
ജന്മവും സഫലമായ് വന്നിതു ഭാഗ്യവശാൽ.
മോഹവാരിധിതന്നിൽ മഗ്നരാം കുടുംബികൾ--
ക്കൈഹികപാരത്രികസൌഖ്യങ്ങൾ വരുത്തുവാൻ 10
നിസ് പൃഹന്മാരായ് വിഷ്ണുഭക്തരായ് സമന്മാരായ്
ഉൾപ്പൂവിൽ കാരുണ്യവും ഏറുന്ന മുനീന്ദ്രന്മാർ
തഞ്ചാതേ ലോകങ്ങളിൽ സഞ്ചരിച്ചീടുമെന്ന--
തഞ്ചാറു വയസ്സെനിയ് ക്കായന്നേ കേൾപ്പുണ്ടു ഞാൻ.
എന്നുടെ ഗൃഹംതന്നിലിന്നെഴുന്നെള്ളിയതും
എന്നെയുമനുഗ്രഹിച്ചീടുവാൻ തന്നെ നൂനം.
ജ്യോതിശ്ശാസ്ത്രവും തപശ്ശക്തിയും ഭവാനോളം
ഏതൊരുവനുമില്ലെന്നെല്ലാർക്കും ബോധമല്ലോ.
അങ്ങിനെയുള്ള ഭവാനെന്നുടെ പുത്രന്മാർക്കു
മങ് ഗളമായ നാമകർമ്മങ്ങൾ ചെയ്തീടേണം." 20
എന്നതു കേട്ടു മുനി മോദമോടരുൾ ചെയ്താൻ :--
"ഇന്നു ഞാനതു ചെയ്താൽ ഉണ്ടൊരു വിഷമം കേൾ !
ലോകപൂജിതൻ വസുദേവനും ഭവാനുമി--
ന്നേകമാനസന്മാരെന്നെല്ലാരും അറിയുന്നു.
യാദവപുരോഹിതനായ ഞാനിഹ വന്നു
സാദരം നാമകർമ്മം ചെയ്കിലോ കംസൻ താനും
എന്തിതിന്നവകാശമെന്നതു നിനച്ചീടും
സന്തതം മൃത്യുഭയം ഉണ്ടവനകതാരിൽ.
ദേവകീസുതന്മാരിലഷ്ടമൻ കൊല്ലുമെന്നു
കേവലം അശരീരിവാക്കു കേട്ടതുശേഷം 30
എട്ടാമതൊരു കന്യയായതും അവൾപിന്നെ--
പ്പെട്ടെന്നു ഗമിച്ചതും ചേർന്നതില്ലവനേതും.
നിന്നുടെ കാലൻ വന്നു ഭൂമിയിലുളവായാൻ
എന്നതു ദേവിയരുൾചെയ്തതും കേട്ടാനവൻ.
എന്നിവകൊണ്ടു വസുദേവനന്ദനൻതന്നെ
മന്നിടംതന്നിലിന്നു കംസനും തിരയുന്നു.
എന്നതുമല്ല, പിന്നെപ്പൂതനാപിശാചിയെ--
ക്കൊന്നിതു തവ സുതനെന്നതുമവൻ കേട്ടൂ.
എന്നതുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെസ്സംശയമുണ്
മെന്നു ഞാനൊരു വഴിയ് ക്കറിഞ്ഞു രഹസ്യമായ്. 40
എന്നിവകൊണ്ടു നാമകർമ്മം ഞാൻ ചെയ് തീടുകിൽ
ഇന്നു നിൻ പുത്രന്മാർക്കു ദോഷമായ് വരുമല്ലോ."
എന്നതു കേട്ടനേരം നന്ദനും ഉരചെയ്താൻ:--
"ഇന്നാരും അറിയാതെ ചെയ് യേണം ഭവാൻതന്നെ."
തന്നുടെ ഹൃദയത്തിൽ ഉള്ളതുപോലെ നന്ദൻ
ചൊന്നപ്പോൾ മുനീന്ദ്രനും അങ്ങിനെയെന്നു ചൊന്നാൻ.
വേദോക്തകർമ്മങ്ങളും ആദരവോടുചെയ് തു
വൈദികവരന്മാർക്കു ഗോദാനങ്ങളും ചെയ് തു .
മുഖ്യമാം മുഹൂർത്തവും വന്നൊരുനേരം മുനി--
മുഖ്യനാം ഗർഗ്ഗൻതാനും നാമവും ചൊല്ലീടിനാൻ.
Chapter 8, Lines 1-20

During that time, responding to the request of VasudEva, Garga muni, who was the chief priest of the Yadu dynasty arrived in GOkulam. Nanda was very pleased, and he happily welcomed the sage and said:
"I feel blessed to have the fortune of meeting you here and I feel very happy. Both my family and the whole Yadu dynasty has become purified (by your presence) and I feel fortunate to have the supreme fulfillment of my life through your holy visit.
To bestow material and spiritual happiness on ordinary householders who are immersed in the ocean of never-ending desires, sages who are great devotees of Vishnu, who have no desires and who are filled with compassion, travel all over the world .
I have been hearing about this since I was five. I am sure that today you have come to my home to bless me. Everybody is aware of the fact that there is nobody whose power of “tapasya” and proficiency in astrology is more than yours. Kindly, you, who has all the above mentioned great qualities, perform the auspicious naming ceremony for my son.”
Chapter 8, lines 21- 42

Sage Garga was pleased to listen to this (the request of Nanda) and said:
"Listen, there is a problem if I perform that (naming ceremony). Everybody will know that you and VasudEva, who is respected by people all over the world, think alike (or have the same mind). If I, who is a priest of the YAdaVAs, perform the naming ceremony (of this boy), Kamsa will definitely question my right to do this.
He has a continuous fear in his mind about his own death at the hands of the eighth son of DEvaki. After hearing the aerial voice, he could not understand why the eighth child was born as a girl and also why she immediately disappeared.
In addition, Kamsa had heard Devi's prophecy that his killer was already taken birth on the earth. Because of all these, he is searching everywhere on the earth for VasudEvA's son. Not only that, he also heard that your son killed Puthana, the female demon. From a secret source I have heard that Kamsa is very suspicious (of this boy of Nanda). So if I perform the naming ceremony, that may not be good for your children."

Listening to that NandagOpa said:
“I request you humbly: Kindly perform this rite without the knowledge of anybody (secretly).”
When Nanda expressed exactly what the sage himself had been feeling in his heart, he agreed (to perform the ceremony).
All the rituals prescribed by VEdA-s were performed to celebrate the birth of the boy. Also several cows were given away to the deserving priests who were proficient in VEdAs. When the auspicious time came, sage Garga uttered the names.
