Lines 49 -- 100
വെള്ളത്തിൽ നീന്തിത്തുടിച്ചങ്ങിനെ തിരകളെ--
ത്തള്ളിയും ആനന്ദിച്ചും കൃഷ്ണനും കിടക്കുന്പോൾ 50
ഘോരശബ്ദങ്ങൾ കേട്ടു കോപിച്ചു ഫണീന്ദ്രനും
രോഷവേഗേന പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്നൊരു നേരം
കൊണ്ടൽവർണ്ണൻതാനും ക്രീഡിച്ചുകിടപ്പതു
കണ്ടു കോപേന ചെന്നു ചുറ്റിനാൻ ഉടലെല്ലാം.
ദുർമ്മതിയാകുന്നവൻ കോപത്തെസ്സഹിയാഞ്ഞു
മർമ്മങ്ങൾ നോക്കിത്തന്നെ കടിച്ചാൻ പലതരം.
ഗോപാലബാലന്മാരും ആയതു കണ്ടനേരം
താപേന മോഹംപൂണ്ടു ഭൂമിയിൽ വീണീടിനാർ.
ഗോക്കളും വൃക്ഷങ്ങളും വത്സരും കൃഷ്ണൻതന്നെ
നോക്കിനിന്നശ്രുക്കളും പൊഴിച്ചു ശബ്ദിയ് ക്കുന്നു. 60
അന്നേരം അന്പാടിയിൽ ദുർന്നിമിത്തങ്ങൾ കണ്ടു
നന്ദാദിഗോപന്മാരും എത്രയും ഭയംപൂണ്ടാർ.
രാമനെ വേർപിരിഞ്ഞു കൃഷ്ണൻ പോയതുമറി--
ഞ്ഞാമയം പൂണ്ടു പുറപ്പെട്ടിതങ്ങെല്ലാവരും.
വൃത്താന്തമെല്ലാം ഉള്ളിലറിഞ്ഞു ബലഭദ്രൻ
ചിത്തത്തിൽ മോദം പൂണ്ടാൻ; ഒന്നുമേ ചൊല്ലീലപ്പോൾ.
ഗോപവല്ലഭന്മാരും ആബാലവൃദ്ധം ചെന്നു
താപേന വനംപുക്കു കൃഷ്ണനെത്തിരയുന്പോൾ
പങ്കജയവാങ് കുശചിഹ്നമാം പാദംകണ്ടു
സങ് കടത്തോടും തിരിഞ്ഞർക്കജാതീരത്തിങ്കൽ 70
ചെന്നൊരുനേരം പശുജാതിയും ബാലന്മാരും
ഒന്നൊഴിയാതെ വീണുകിടക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടാർ;
കാളിയസർപ്പംതന്നാൽ വേഷ്ടിതശരീരനായ്--
ക്കാളിന്ദീമദ്ധ്യേ കൃഷ്ണരൂപവും കണ്ടീടിനാർ.
അന്നേരം അവർക്കെല്ലാം ഉള്ളിലുണ്ടായ ദു:ഖം എല്ലാം
ഇന്നുര ചെയ്തീടുവാൻ ആളല്ല ഫണീന്ദ്രനും.
ഓരോന്നു പറകയും മാറത്തു തൊഴിയ് ക്കയും
പാരമായ് മുറയിട്ടു മോഹിച്ചു പതിയ് ക്കയും
പിന്നെയും എഴുന്നേറ്റു കൃഷ്ണനെ നോക്കിത്തന്നെ
നിന്നു കൊണ്ടെല്ലാവരും ഉച്ചത്തിൽ വിലപിച്ചാർ. 80
പെണ്ണുങ്ങളുടെ കണ്ണുനീരുകൾ കൃഷ്ണാഞ്ജന--
വർണ്ണമായൊരു പുഴ പോലെയങ്ങൊലിയ് ക്കയും
ഇത്തരമോരോതരം ഘോഷമുണ്ടായനേരം
ചിത്തതാപേന നന്ദഗോപനും യശോദയും
കാളിന്ദിതന്നിൽചെന്നു ചാടുവാൻ തുടർന്നപ്പോൾ
നാളീകനേത്രനായ രാമനും മുടക്കിനാൻ.
തന്നുടെ ജനങ്ങൾക്കു ദു:ഖം വന്നതുകണ്ടു
നന്ദനന്ദനൻ സർപ്പബന്ധവും വേർപെടുത്താൻ.
ആയിരം ഫണങ്ങൾകൊണ്ടന്നേരം ഫണീന്ദ്രനും
വായുവേഗേന ചെന്നാൻ കൃഷ്ണനെക്കടിപ്പാനായ്. 90
അന്നേരം കൃഷ്ണൻതന്നെപ്പിന്നിലാമ്മാറു കണ്ടു
പന്നഗം തിരിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ കണ്ടിതു പിന്നിൽത്തന്നെ.
ഇങ്ങിനെ നാലുപാടും തിരിഞ്ഞുതിരിഞ്ഞഥ
പന്നഗേശ്വരൻതാനും എത്രയും വശംകെട്ടു.
അന്നേരം ദാമോദരൻ എത്രയും വേഗത്തോടും
ഉന്നതമായ സർപ്പമസ്തകം എറീടിനാൻ.
അന്നേരം ഫണങ്ങളിൽ നൃത്തവും തുടങ്ങിനാൻ;
നന്ദാദിഗോപന്മാരും പരമാനന്ദം പൂണ്ടു.
പുഷ്പവൃഷ്ടിയും ചെയ്തു ദേവകൾ സന്തോഷത്താൽ;
അപ്സരസ്ത്രീകളപ്പോൾ നൃത്തവും തുടങ്ങിനാർ. 100
Chapter 16, Lines 49 — 60

Listening to the loud noise (made by Krishna’s leap), Kaliya, the lord of serpents, became very angry and when he quickly came there, he saw Krishna playfully floating there (on the surface of the water). This made him all the more angry and he wrapped his coils around Krishna.
Evil Kaliya could not control his anger and he bit Krishna on different vital points (maRmma-s) of the body. Watching this, the gOpAs fell unconscious on the ground. Looking at Krishna, even the cows, calves and trees shed tears and made sad noises.
Lines 61-74

NandagOpa and everybody in AmpAti noticed some ill omens and they were all afraid (of what would happen next). The fact that Krishna went without Rama, made them worry even more and immediately they set out to look for him. Balabhadra knew what was going on and he was happy about it (as he knew that it would end in Krishna’s victory).
But he just kept quiet. All gOpAs, irrespective of their age, went to the forest and started searching for Krishna. Following the footsteps on the ground, marked with the divine signs on the bottom of Krishna’s feet —lotus, barleycorn, and goad—, they reached the banks of Kalindi. ( Kalindi is Arkaja or the daughter of Lord Sun.) There they saw all the young GOpAs, cows and calves lying unconscious on the ground. Also they saw Krishna tightly bound in the coils of Kaaliya in the middle of the river.
Lines 75-86

The sorrow experienced by all of them at that time was beyond words and even the thousand hooded Anantha (serpent with thousand a mouths to talk), Lord of all serpents would find it difficult to describe. All of them were saying something, some were crying and beating on their chest and some had fallen unconscious. After some time, they got up and looking at Krishna, started crying together very loudly. Mixed with the black eye-liner paste, tears flowing from the eyes of the women resembled a black river. When all these things were happening, with a heavy heart, NandaagOpa and YaShOda attempted to jump in to the river and the lotus-eyed Balaraama stopped them from jumping.
Lines 87-94

When Krishna saw how sad and worried his folks were, he came out of the grip of Kaliya. Then Kaliya, eager to bite the child with his thousand hoods, advanced towards Krishna at the speed of air. Then he saw Krishna behind him. When he turned back, he saw that Krishna was again behind him. Thus Krishna made him go round and round until he was thoroughly exhausted.
Lines 95-100

At that time DAmOdara quickly climbed on the highest hood of the serpent. Then he started dancing on its hoods made all the GOpAs (and all onlookers) extremely happy. The pleased DEvAs (happy at the destruction of a demonic being) showered flowers and the divine damsels started dancing(to celebrate the holy event of Krishna’s victory.)
