Shiva Family and it's symbolic spiritual significance
Mathaa cha Parvathee Devi,
Pithaa devo Maheswara:
Baandhavaa:Shiva Bakthaascha,
Swadesho Bhuvanathrayam.
Almost every story or concept in Hinduism is symbolic of some spiritual significance. Let us look the Shiva Kutumbam or family of Lord Shiva.
1. Snake is an ornament on Lord Shiva's neck. Can we also see a mouse which is a natural prey of a snake, in the Lord Shiva's family. Yes, mouse happens to be the vehicle of Ganesha.
2. Shiva's vehicle is Nandi, the divine bull and Parvathidevi has a lion as her vehicle. Nandi, the bull can very well be a sumptuous prey for the lion.
3. See the peacock, the vehicle of Subramnia swamy standing near the snake and mouse.
Now all of them are together remaining very peacefully. What does that symbolize? Lord Shiva's family inspires us to maintain unity in diversity. Everybody does not have to think alike, act alike or similar in every aspect. We all can be different, and still be nice to each other leaving a wide margin for every body's short comings or peculiarities. Shiva kutumbam inspires us to lead a life of harmony and peace going beyond the turbulence disagreements and disparities!
