Devi maahaathmyam 9

Devi Maahaathmyam 9

Chapter twelve is about Devi's reassurance to all devotees about the
positive effect of reading Devi Maahathmyam with bhakthi or sincere
devotion. The story of the destruction of Madhu, Kaitabha, Chanda, Munda,
Dhoomralochana, Rakthabeeja, Sumbha and Nisumbha are very auspicious and
should be remembered every day with utmost devotion. If a devotee is not
able to chant by himself/herself due to illness, inconvenience or lack of
knowledge, he/she should try to listen to another devotee chanting or
telling the great stories of Devi. The power of these stories will protect
all devotees from all material as well as spiritual ailments and lead them
to salvation. Also this story of Devi removes all unwanted fears in our
    mind.

Even when we are lost in a forest, or trapped in forest fire or in the
company of bad people, or chased by wild animals or elephant, or travelling
in a sinking boat or put in a jail waiting for execution or trapped in any
unfavorable circumstances, chanting of Devi Maahathmyam will definitely
protect us and will help us to escape from all these situations and She
will bless us with peace and harmony

Thirteenth chapter is the final advice to King Suratha and the business man
Saamadhi by Sage Sumadehas. After narrating the whole story and the
positive effects of remembering Devi and Her winning over the demons
representing the enemies of our own mind, Sage Sumedhas said:

"Dear king Suratha and Samaadhi, now I have told you the story of Devi and
how Vishnumaaya causes Avidya or ignorance and how She also removes avidya
and showers Vidya or Ultimate knowledge. No one can escape Maaya or
delusion, but when one surrenders to Mahaamaaya.she blesses them with all
material prosperity and liberates us from all bondage."

By listening thus to the story of Devi narrated by Sage Sumedhas with
utmost devotion, both king Suratha and Samaadhi got rid of their attachment
to their families, and possessions and felt free from other bondage binding
them to the material world and they experienced soothing calmness and
peace. They went to Sahya mountain and made a statue of Devi and worshiped
Her, observed austerities, did meditation and after three years, Devi was
very pleased and appeared before them. Devi offered them boons. Devi fulfilled
their wishes and King Suratha became the next Manu of Saavarnika
manvanthara. Samaadhi lived as an enlightened Jeevan muktha for some time and
    finally attained liberation!

Thus ends the Devi Maahathmyam contained in the Maarkandeya Puraanam of
    Vyaasa Bhagavaan.!
Let Saraswathi Devi bless all of us with pure knowledge and let peace and
    harmony prevail every where!
    Happy Vijayadashami to all!

Shathaabishekam

6/21/08 When is Shathaabhishekam celebrated? When it should be celebrated? We have heard about different versions of when it should be celebrated, when you complete 84 years, or when you complete 81 years and 10 months or when you complete 83 years 4 months. Shathaabhishekam is celebrated when a person sees 1000 full moons lives through 1000 full moons in his life. Since it is a mathematical calculation, there should only be one answer. Then how are we having all these three answers? (It really does not matter when you celebrate, but out of curiosity to know the reason behind the celebration, I did some research and I thought some people may share my curiosity. Of all the explanations I read I liked the one given below.)   Here is a convincing explanation based mainly on a question -answer series in Bhakthapriya magazine published by Guruvayur devaswom. For clarity, I am trying to express it as mathematically as possible.   Number of full moons in one year = 12   So n

16 names of Lord Vishnu

16 names of Lord Vishnu 4/26/08 These are 16 names of Vishnu to be remembered at different occasions. It is said that sabda (sabda), sparsha (touch), roopa (form), rasa (taste), gandha (smell) and the positive energy or vibration coexist with words. Repeated chanting of each word with bhava creates different results in our body since effort to utter each word uses different muscles and brings different effect in the saadhaka. Chanting can be done like in the naamaavali: Om Vishnave Nama:, Om Janaaardanaaya nama:, Om padmanaabhaaya nama: etc. We will try to analyze the meaning of each name. May be Vishunsahasranama interpretaions will help us. . When taking medicine think of Vishnu Before eating think of Janaardana Before going to bed think of Padmanaabha During marriage think of Prajaapathi During fight or controversial situations think Chakradhara When you are away from home or NRIs like lot of us think of Thrivikrama At the time of death try to think of Naarayana When you are wi
