Narada Muni and Maya 2

Narada narrated his encounter with Vishnu Maaya to Vedavyaasa Maharshi.

After travelling through all the fourteen worlds, once Narada Muni went back to Vaikundham. When he entered Bhagavan's quarters (he had the right to go anywhere in Vaikundham with out any body's permission), Bhagavan and Lakshmi Devi were relaxing there and were talking about something. As soon as Narada Muni entered, Lakshni Devi disappeared in to the women's quarters. Then Narada asked Lord Mahavishnu:

"Prabho! I am a great devotee of yours and I have my indriyas or senses under control. And you know, I am not affected by the power of Maaya. So why did your consort Lakshmi Devi leave the room when she saw me coming? Does that mean that she considers me as an" anyan" or outsider?

When Narada boasted like that about himself, Bhagavan tried hard to hide his smile. Bhagavan told Narada Muni:

"Hey, Narada, Devi did not mean  to belittle you or ignore you. But she is a very chaste woman (pathivratha) and does not want to be near me in the presence of another man. She just followed the instructions in the Shaasthras. You said you have won over Maaya. It is not easy to win over my Yogamaaya shakthi. Even the Kaalam or Time is a slave of Maaya."

Narada told Bhagavan:

"Hey Bhagavan, I have a desire to know and experience the form, basis and power of Maaya. Please fulfill my desire."

Then Bhagavan told Narada to mount on His vehicle Garuda along with Him. Bhagavan warned Narada Muni that He was ready to show him the power of Maaya, but he should not complain or get upset. They both travelled on Garuda for miles and miles and finally they reached a village on earth called "Kanyaakubjam". They landed on the bank of a beautiful lake. Bhagavan aksed Narada Muni to take bath in that beautiful lake. Narada Muni got ready to step in to the water and Bhagavan sat comfortably on a huge rock nearby.

We will continue the story in the next post

May Bhagavan bless us to know Him more and more.

Shathaabishekam

6/21/08 When is Shathaabhishekam celebrated? When it should be celebrated? We have heard about different versions of when it should be celebrated, when you complete 84 years, or when you complete 81 years and 10 months or when you complete 83 years 4 months. Shathaabhishekam is celebrated when a person sees 1000 full moons lives through 1000 full moons in his life. Since it is a mathematical calculation, there should only be one answer. Then how are we having all these three answers? (It really does not matter when you celebrate, but out of curiosity to know the reason behind the celebration, I did some research and I thought some people may share my curiosity. Of all the explanations I read I liked the one given below.)   Here is a convincing explanation based mainly on a question -answer series in Bhakthapriya magazine published by Guruvayur devaswom. For clarity, I am trying to express it as mathematically as possible.   Number of full moon...

Six elder brothers of Krishna

5/6/09 We all know that Prahlada was the son of Hiranyakashipu. According to the story in Harivamsha, Hiranyakashipu had another son called Kaalanemi. (Kalanemi appears in different demon forms in each yuga and gets killed by Lord. In Threthayuga he was Ravana's uncle.) This Kalanemi of Dwapara yuga had 6 sons who were the son's of Marichi Maharshi in their previous birth. They were born as Kalanemi's children becasue of a curse from Sage Devala. They were called shad-garbhaas and their names were Hamsa, Suvikrama, Krahta, Damana, Ripumardana and Krodhahantha.   These grandsons of Hiranyakashipu did not accept Hiranykashipu as their God and refused to chant "Hiranyaaya Nama" as instructed. Instead they did severe penance to please Brahma Devan. Brahmadevan was pleased and appeared before them and gave the boon they asked for. They did not want to get killed by any Devaas, Gandharvaas, Yakshaas or naagaas. After receiving the boons, they stayed under wat...
