Story of Sukanya 4

Aswini Devaas told Sukanya :

" We will give eyesight to your husband and also make him a young man. But there will be a riddle for you solve to get your young husband back .The new young Chyavana Maharshi with good eye sight will look exactly like us and you have to identify your husband from the three men looking exactly alike in every way. If you are ready to accept the challenge, we will bless you with that boon"

Sukanya discussed this offer with Chyavana Maharshi and Maharshi agreed and gave permission  to accept the offer. Aswini Devaas told Maharshi to take a dip in the nearby lake and they also took a dip along with the sage. When they  came out of the water, all the three of them looked exactly similar. All of them looked  young and very handsome. Then they told her to choose her husband from among them. Sukanya prayed Devi to give her the wisdom to choose her husband from that trio. Devi Bhagavathi, an ocean of kindness, came for her rescue. The presence of Devi Bhagavathi's chaithanyam or power made her choose Chyavana Maharshi from the three young and handsome men.

Now the whole situation changed. Now Sukanya got her beloved husband back who was much younger and very handsome. Chyavana Maharshi thanked Aswini Devaas and told them that he would like to show his gratitude by some means. Then Aswini Devaas told Maharshi:

Hey Maharshe! we have a problem. As you know we are the physicians of Devaas. Since we are physicians Lord Mahavaishnu does not want us to share the "somarasam" during the Yanjnaas performed by sages and other devotee Brahmins and kings. Among the Devaas, we are the only people who are deprived of this right of consuming "somarasam. If you can change this state of affairs, we will be very grateful to you."

Chyavana Maharshi told them that he would request King Sharyathi, his father-in-law to perform a yajnam and offer the somarasam to Aswini Devaas also.

Sukanya and Chyavana Maharshi came back to their hermitage and during this time King Sharyathi decided to visit them. He did not know anything about the recent happenings and they just wanted to know how their daughter was doing. They were even wondering whether the old Maharshi was still alive and even if he was living, what was the plight of their beloved daughter. After travelling a long distance they finally reached the forest near river Ganga where Chyavana Maharshi and Sukanya were living.

Shathaabishekam

6/21/08 When is Shathaabhishekam celebrated? When it should be celebrated? We have heard about different versions of when it should be celebrated, when you complete 84 years, or when you complete 81 years and 10 months or when you complete 83 years 4 months. Shathaabhishekam is celebrated when a person sees 1000 full moons lives through 1000 full moons in his life. Since it is a mathematical calculation, there should only be one answer. Then how are we having all these three answers? (It really does not matter when you celebrate, but out of curiosity to know the reason behind the celebration, I did some research and I thought some people may share my curiosity. Of all the explanations I read I liked the one given below.)   Here is a convincing explanation based mainly on a question -answer series in Bhakthapriya magazine published by Guruvayur devaswom. For clarity, I am trying to express it as mathematically as possible.   Number of full moon...

Six elder brothers of Krishna

5/6/09 We all know that Prahlada was the son of Hiranyakashipu. According to the story in Harivamsha, Hiranyakashipu had another son called Kaalanemi. (Kalanemi appears in different demon forms in each yuga and gets killed by Lord. In Threthayuga he was Ravana's uncle.) This Kalanemi of Dwapara yuga had 6 sons who were the son's of Marichi Maharshi in their previous birth. They were born as Kalanemi's children becasue of a curse from Sage Devala. They were called shad-garbhaas and their names were Hamsa, Suvikrama, Krahta, Damana, Ripumardana and Krodhahantha.   These grandsons of Hiranyakashipu did not accept Hiranykashipu as their God and refused to chant "Hiranyaaya Nama" as instructed. Instead they did severe penance to please Brahma Devan. Brahmadevan was pleased and appeared before them and gave the boon they asked for. They did not want to get killed by any Devaas, Gandharvaas, Yakshaas or naagaas. After receiving the boons, they stayed under wat...
