When King Sharyathi and the queen reached the hermitage, they saw a handsome young sage sitting there. They could not believe their eyes. They were even wondering whether Sukanya got rid of her old husband and chose a young sage as her husband. Sukanya came out and saw her father lost in thoughts. She told them;
"Dear father and mother, did you see my husband Chyavana Maharshi? You will not even recognize him. He is now a young and handsome sage."
Sukanya explained to them the whole story and Chyavana Mharshi and Sukanya prostrated at their feet and welcomed them to their hermitage. All of them were so happy and King Sharyathi spent a few days there. Chyavana Maharshi told King Sharyathi that he wanted to show his gratitude to Aswini Devaas and as per their request, promised them to share the "somarasam" during the Yajnaas performed by King Shyaryathi. Maharshi humbly requested King Sharyathi to perform a yajnam as soon as possible and remove the sorrow of Aswini Devaas by offering them "somarasam"
King Sharyathi started the yajnam and all the other Devaas did not like the presence of Aswini Devaas there. In spite of the disapproval of all Devaas, Chyavana Maharshi did give the "somarasam" to Aswnini Devaas. Devendra was furious and used his Vajraayudham against Chyavana Maharshi. Extremely powerful Maharshi invoked a terrible looking being from the fire and that being advanced towards Devendra and Devendra started running away from it and took refuge at the feet of Devaguru Bruhaspathi. Bruhaspathi told Devendra to take refuge at Chyavana Maharshi's feet because he could not do anything against the power of penance of Maharshi. Scared and tired, Lord Indra took refuge at Maharshi's feet and requested to call back the terrible being . Devendra told Maharshi:
Respected,Chyavana Maharshe! I did not realize the power of your penance. I wanted to test your power and now I am in this mess. I apologize at your feet and please destroy this terrible being and save me and all Devaas!
Chyavana Maharshi divided the fire born being called "madan" in to four parts and put the parts in the body of adharmic women, people who killed innocent animals by hunting, people who were addicted to gambling and people who consumed intoxicating drinks and concluded the yajnam. After the yajnam, King Sharyathi ruled the kingdom following truth and dharmam and the four inauspicious parts of "madan" caused suffering and sorrow for evil and adharmic women,men and women who killed innocent animals for fun, men and women who gambled, and for people who consumed intoxicating drinks and caused misery to everybody around them.
Sukanya's story teaches us the value of perseverance, acceptance and selfless love.
